GMC Sierra Sales Statistics and Delivery Trends
GM’s official delivery table reports U.S. deliveries rather than global sales or registrations. On that basis, Sierra deliveries rose from 295,737 vehicles in 2023 to 324,734 in 2024, with GM reporting a 9.8% increase for the comparison.
| Period | Sierra deliveries | Geography | Measure |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 full year | 295,737 | United States | GM-reported deliveries |
| 2024 full year | 324,734 | United States | GM-reported deliveries |
| Q4 2024 | 95,336 | United States | Quarterly deliveries |
Source: GM U.S. Deliveries for Quarter 4 2024.
Q4 2024 deliveries were 19.9% higher than Q4 2023. The quarterly total included 60,899 LD vehicles, 33,036 HD vehicles and 1,401 Sierra EV vehicles, while the full-year EV count reached 1,788.
GM’s separate 2024 results release reported that GMC Q4 sales rose 33% year over year, but that figure covers all GMC models rather than Sierra alone. It should therefore be treated as brand-level context, not as another Sierra delivery rate.

GMC Sierra Light-Duty and Heavy-Duty Sales Mix
GM’s 2024 U.S. reporting separates Sierra into LD, HD and EV categories. Sierra LD deliveries totaled 214,819 in 2024, compared with 189,288 in 2023, while HD deliveries totaled 108,127 in 2024, compared with 106,449 in 2023.
| Category | 2023 deliveries | 2024 deliveries | Reported change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sierra LD | 189,288 | 214,819 | 13.5% increase |
| Sierra HD | 106,449 | 108,127 | 1.6% increase |
| Sierra EV | Not shown in comparison | 1,788 | Separately reported |

Using GM’s 2024 LD, HD and EV counts, LD accounts for about 66.2% of the reported total, HD about 33.3% and EV about 0.6%. These are rounded derived shares from the reported counts and exclude any category not separately shown.
The Q4 pattern was stronger for both conventional categories: LD increased 18.2% year over year and HD increased 18.1%. Q4 LD deliveries were 60,899 and Q4 HD deliveries were 33,036, while Sierra EV deliveries were 1,401.
GMC Sierra Market Position and Historical Pickup Data
Historical market statements require a wider definition than Sierra alone. GM reported that combined Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra LD and HD sales reached 768,689 units in the United States in 2021.
GM also cited a J.D. Power PIN estimate placing GM’s combined 2021 retail share of the full-size pickup market at approximately 37%, about 6 percentage points above the next closest competitor.
Those measures combine Chevrolet and GMC and are estimates, not Sierra-only results.
The distinction matters when comparing the historical figure with the newer Sierra delivery series. The 2021 number is combined Chevrolet-GMC sales, whereas the 2023 and 2024 figures above are GM-reported U.S. Sierra deliveries.
GMC Sierra Towing, Payload and Weight Statistics
Official GMC capability figures vary with cab, drivetrain, axle, options, occupants and trailer setup. The 2025 Sierra 3500 HD Chassis Cab provides the largest listed commercial-duty figures in this dataset.

A selected 2025 Sierra 1500 configuration lists a 6,800-pound GVWR, 2,186 pounds of base payload, a 14,500-pound GCWR and 62.90 cubic feet of cargo volume. These are configuration-specific values, not lineup-wide maximums.

GMC Sierra Engine Power and Torque Statistics
The 2025 Sierra engine figures show different output profiles across the 1500 and 3500 HD lines. The diesel specifications emphasize torque, while the gasoline V8 figures provide separate horsepower and torque benchmarks.
| Engine application | Horsepower | Torque |
|---|---|---|
| Sierra 1500 Duramax 3.0L diesel | 305 | 495 lb-ft |
| Sierra 1500 TurboMax | 310 | 430 lb-ft standard |
| Sierra 1500 5.3L V8 | 355 | 383 lb-ft |
| Sierra 1500 6.2L V8 | 420 | 460 lb-ft |
| Sierra 3500 HD 6.6L gasoline V8 | 401 | 464 lb-ft |
| Sierra 3500 HD Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel | 470 | 975 lb-ft |

GMC lists the TurboMax application on Sierra 1500 Pro, SLE and Elevation trims, while the 5.3L and 6.2L V8 engines are available on listed trims. The engine guide’s towing figures remain configuration-dependent even when an engine’s output is fixed.

The selected 2025 Sierra 1500 configuration measures 231.92 inches overall, with a 147.44-inch wheelbase and 81.24-inch width without mirrors. Its listed ground clearance is 7.89 inches.
| Selected 2025 Sierra 1500 measurement | Value |

The same configuration lists the 6,800-pound GVWR, 2,186-pound base payload and 14,500-pound GCWR noted above. Because these figures come from one selected configuration, they should not be generalized to every Sierra 1500 cab, bed or drivetrain.
For commercial equipment, the 2025 Sierra HD Chassis Cab offers an available 13.4-inch diagonal center touchscreen and an available 12.3-inch diagonal driver information center. Its dual alternators have an approximate combined nominal rating of 390 amps.

GMC Sierra Recall Populations and Safety Data
Recall statistics describe potentially involved vehicles and filing estimates, not confirmed failures, complaint rates or completed remedies. NHTSA’s 2025 GM filing identifies certain 2021–2024 model-year Sierra 1500 vehicles with the 6.2L V8 issue.
The filing lists 153,630 potentially affected Sierra 1500 vehicles in the United States. The Sierra vehicles were produced from March 1, 2021 through May 31, 2024, so that production window is not a sales period.
The same filing gives a total potentially involved population of 647,419 vehicles across listed GM models, including Sierra, Silverado, Tahoe, Yukon, Yukon XL and Escalade variants. It estimates that 3% of that combined population had the defect; the estimate is not Sierra-specific.

NHTSA’s General Motors Recall Spotlight covers certain 2015–2017 Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD vehicles and certain 2014–2017 Sierra 1500 vehicles. The spotlight does not quantify all affected Sierra vehicles, so these model-year ranges should not be converted into a total recall population.

A 2019 GM safety recall notice covers certain 2014–2018 Sierra 1500 vehicles with four-wheel drive, a 5.3L engine and a 3.08 rear axle ratio. That is a configuration-specific scope from the NHTSA-hosted filing, not a count of every Sierra built or sold during those model years.
